Is there a way to install via upload of the files / folders in the Souce download? I couldn't find that part in the install guide. Thanks!

Why would you use the source version on a live install?

If possible, get your hosting service to install DNN for you.  If they won't do that, download the Install package and not the Source code.  Get your hosting service to create the database, and get the connection string info from them - make sure you enter this into the web.config file correctly.  After you have edited the web.config file, then upload the install package to the server.

There's lots of info in these forums, written by people much more knowledgeable than me, so I'm not going to go into detail on any of the individual steps - plus there's documentation that comes with the software.

Go to the site - the install should run.  Then you login and go from there.

Unless you're a developer, you'll probably never need to download the source code.

That's the way I have been doing it for each of my many installs...ut oh.  I shouldn't be?  I thought the source gives me all the files and code I would need to tweak the core for certain customizations and the install version would only give me access to some things, not the full source code.

So I shouldn't be taking the source code version and ftp'ing to my host when I do a new install?  :)

why would you want to tweak the core ;)

the source version consists of two parts: a web applcation (in /website), which is identical to the install version, and a library, which sits outside the webapplication and has absolutely no value in a live environment, unless your hosting provider allows you to compile your dnn solution in real time over FTP ... good luck finding a hosting provider that allows that ;)

I'd say thats a very good idea.... :)
