Hi All,

I’ve been considering installing a new instance of DNN 4.5.5 for each client instead of including all in one instance. Does anyone have any advice on if this is a good idea etc? I can think of a lot of pros such as separate db's for each site, errors on one site not affecting the other etc. Has anyone done this? Will say 15 installs of DNN on my server adversely affect the performance as opposed to 15 sites in 1 install? Any info anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

single DNN instance needs less storage on file Server and in memory as also only one database. User list is shared, i.e. same username can only be used once or user needs to use same password to be able to access multiple of the sites.

separate instances allow separate backup and restore, installation of modules without affecting the other installations and completely independant user list.

All of the above are items that you will want to take into consideration, the most important ones in my opinion are what your needs are for backups and restores, as well as module installations and the limitations on usernames.

Everything what Mitchel and leupold told is correct but one aspect failed - the affort in updates e.s. when you're running your server commercial. When you've one installation running you only have to care one modification (update, backup, new modules, ...). When you've multiple installation you could have much more problems when you do a modification on your system. When you need multiple installations (when a customer insists an own installation) try to produce identical installations (clones), so it's then very easier to handle that demand.
