Hi guys,

I'm new to DNN and am quite excited by what it can do. I have installed the install version w/o a hitch, but tried again with Starter Kit and am having an interesting problem (described below):

VMWARE running Windows 2003, SQL Server 2000.

Using a fresh 2k3 image, I was unable to perform a custom or typical install on my system.

I follow the steps outlined from help references all over the place, but what ends up happening is that after I "Start w/o Debugging" from Visual Studio, the web page comes up with the installation wizard text. Problem is that the images do not come up. When I try to directly link myself to the images, a page comes up stating that "The stored procedure 'dbo.GetPortalAliasByPortalID' doesn't exist."

I doubled checked my file permissions, db user dbo permissions, web.config file, etc and reloaded snapshots tryign to poke around to no avail. I can still proceed through the steps until I hit the scripts installation page. Interesting enoguh, automatic install went through the installation successfully (albeit pictureless), but after that everything *seemed* normal.

Any help would be great! It does not sit well with me that I can only install it "automagically."

I would ensure that your file permissions are 100% correct.  if you manually updated the web.config file with the proper connections selecting the "Auto" install method is the proper option anyway.  It streamlines the install process since you have already validated the database connections.

Also, I would just make sure that you followed all the steps that I have listed on my install guide on my site (http://www.mitchelsellers.com) I have performed hundreds of installations with these instructions without issue.

I found out what the problem was.

I needed to allow execution along with scripts permissions when setting up the IIS server.

I ran into another bug after that, but after reading this article, http://code.ericpiraux.be/2007/09/dotnetnuke-install-for-dummies.html, I gave up on customizing my install and am happy with automatic for the moment, unless someone has found a solution to the first error mentioned on the blog, which occurs during typical / custom install:

"Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Upgrading Database to Version ERROR: See c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\04.04.00.log for more information...FAILURE 400 - Conversion from string "ERROR: See c:inetpubwwwrootProvi" to type 'Integer' is not valid."

Thanks for your help mitchel.
