Hi all,

I urgently need some help with this, please!

I cannot login in my DNN 4.5.x website after having copied the DB to another hosting environment. Not one DNN login works! The problem is I don't have any control over the RESTORE db process on the new host, whereas on my own host there's no problem in updating the DB after having developed locally (which speeds up the process a lot) and all DNN logins works as expected.

What can be the problem? Does the SQL login requirethe role db_owner maybe? What do I tell the hosting support to do?

Many, many TIA, Pieter

The SQL account specified in your web.config file does need to have db_owner permission on your database.  I'm confused about what you mean by "users can't login" and how this relates to the SQL account though.  In your hosting environment, if there is a problem with your SQL accounts permissions, you should just get an error page when navigating to the default.aspx page in your install.  If you can actually see a working portal but are unable to login, it just sounds like the data inside your database has not made it over to your host.

Can you clarify what you mean and the problem behavior you are seeing?

Seems like this thread was posted twice by me... sorry for that.

The behavior was that the page looks fine but when logging in none of the logins worked, not the host, admin, user accounts, nothing.

Anyways, we have left the host provider aside because they gave bad service (www.enom.com).

If you restore a backup from other SQL Server you have not assign a Login name to the dbo user.  You can change this if you are run this script on the SQL Server:

Use Databasename

EXECUTE sp_changedbowner 'username'

This will change the Loginname of the dbo to the username what you set.

Regards

Matthias

Hi Matthias, my local DB has a SQL login that has the db_owner role assigned, and on my host I have the same login as the db_owner. I have done various upgrades in the past with the same DNN installation (local dev, then upgrade live site) from DNN version 4.3.7. Until now it always worked...
