I have a working DNN 4.4 installation with several working portals, and was about to upgrade to 4.6.2 - until I read all the many posts here describing upgrade problems and issues. Many also mention that (apparently) they could not roll back easily using their backups. So I have decided against upgrading to 4.6.2 at this time, but could still upgrade to 4.5.5. My question: has anyone done this, and how many problems and issues came up during the upgrade process?

upgrading from 4.4.x to 4.5.5 shall be done w/o issues, always make a backup first.

you can use the following check list: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/186/Default.aspx

As mentioned above you should be able to go to 4.5.5 without issue.  I have upgrade and backup guides on my website http://www.mitchelsellers.com
