As a beginner, I am installing on version for Net 2 framework. On following the instructions, I must create a virtual directory and make sure it points to ASP 2. The version of IIS I am running on my laptop (Windows XP SP2) does not include IIS 6, and IIS6 appears to be windows server based only. How do I get a version that allows me to select the framework version for the virtual directory?

Thank you for helping a beginner

Any version will, I am using 5.1. Once .NET 2.0 framework is installed in IIS select the site and right click goto properties you will see an ASP.NET tab click on that and from here you can select the framework version. But you need to install IIS, to do this go to control pannel add-remove programs add remove windows components in the window you will see Internet Information Services (IIS) chack this and click next. That will install IIS.
