Hi there,

Ive downloaded the 4.7 version source package which was supposed to "contain everything, including full application source code". I cant find a single help nor readme file in the package however so now all ive got is a swag of code and project folders and no map nor idea of what the in the hell Im supposed to do with any of it.

Ive been through the links on this site but all I can find is marketing material and post installation help files. No installation files. Wheres the meat in this sandwich? Surely 450,000 registered users haven't just bumbled their way through the learning curve. Anyone have any idea of where the entry point for this thing is??

 Thanks

Richard

I'd recommend download the Documentation package from the Downloads Page

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/tabid/125/default.aspx

It's there under the 4.5.5 release. Take a look through the PDFs in there, there are some good help documents on installation there. You can also dig through the Help pages here http://www.dotnetnuke.com/tabid/787/Default.aspx

Hi Richard,

Here is a good piece of documentation for installation of everything from DNN itself to the starter kit.

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=gOZGbvrVKJw%3d&tabid=478&mid=857

When you google DNN installation there is also a lot of sites that have tutorials.  The main thing is to unzip the application to your virtual directory or home directory for an IIS website and create a database.  Then you can edit the web.config file to have the correct connection string.  Once you do that you can browse to the site and add "/install/install.aspx" to the end and DNN should do the rest.  That's a very quick and dirty rendition, there are some specifics regarding permissions that would be covered in the documentation, once you read some of the documentation you should get it pretty easily.

O.k thanks guys,

I was wrong there is installation documentation. Its in the technical documentation section of this site. It called Detailed Installation Guide and its second to last in the list. (No alphabetical order?).

There is also some quick and dirty documentation for the 4.7 install in the download. It's tucked in with the Website files themselves however and is called Starter Kit.

Secondly during the install I created a virtual directory for DotNetNuke website. But after the install I wound up with a second virutal directory called DotNetNuke2 somehow created automatically. This must be the actual/live site that being used because the app would run till I changed permission on that as well as the one I created.

So my next question is "is the first site/virtual directory I created some kind of template?".  They both point at the same filesystem folder.

Thanks again.

I am not sure exactly how you created your site to have the two virtual directories.

Have a look at my installation guide at http://www.mitchelsellers.com and see if you can find anything that you did differently, something that might cause issues within IIS.
