I followed the directions to upgrade from 3.3 to 4.7 - I copied all the info I needed from my old web.config into the new web.config - when I try to access the site, I get:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I am NOT running SQL 2005, I am running SQL2000 - however, if I remove the connection strings in the web.config for sql 2005, it STILL blows up.

What can I do to run this thing on SQL 2000?  Does 4.7 run on SQL 2000?

yes, DNN 4.7.0 runs on SQL 2000. you need to configure your sql server to accept connections from another server (if they are not located on the same machine) and the authentication method you chose (integrated or SQL authentication).

Everything was on the same server before, everything is on the same server now.  I do not have, and have never had, SQL 2005  on here but that is what the error message keeps referring to:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I have been offline for almost a week now, please help!!!!!!

You are not alone

Try the third one, it may contain the solution. I think the problem is not in DotNetNuke, nor in ASP.NET/ADO.NET 2.0
