I am new to DNN and although I have successfully managed to install it localaly under XP but I am having great difficulty getting it to work on my web server.

I am trying to set-up DNN 4.7 on a virtual server (running Win2003) that uses Plesk/Virtuozzo 8.2. I also have Remote Desktop access to the server.

I have created a subdomain called dnn in my domain and unziped the files to this location. Renamed release.config to web.config. I have given Network Service full access to the files. When I try and access the site I get the following message:

Access to the path 'C:\Inetpub\vhosts\<my domain>\subdomains\dnn\httpdocs\\DotNetNuke.config' is denied. The URL shown in the browser is: http://dnn.<my domain>/Install/InstallWizard.aspx

There are two \\ together and it would appear to me that the word config is missing. I can see the error because I am trying to access the site through remote desktop. Otherwise I just get the generic Runtime Error message.

I have not done anything with regard databases as it would appear from the web.config file that it automatically attaches the database in the App_Data folder. Is that right? I didn't need to do anything when I tried it under XP.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Gary.

please make sure that the identity that is used to run the worker process (as set in the application pool) is indeed Network Services, or whether this is another user.

Also please note: for the user instance method of creating the db to succeed, you need sql server express installed on your server. IMO, for db maintenance, it is far easier to in fact precreate the db in sql server, and point dnn to that db in web.config

Erik,

Thanks for your reply. Indeed the Application Pool identity was not Network Service and so I have given that full access and all seems to be working now.

Also, have taken your advice and connected to a new SQL Server database rather than using the SQLExpress file method. I let the Wizard make the changes to the web.config file.

thanks,

Gary.
