In attempting to upgrade my private hosted site from DNN 4.5 to DNN 4.7, I  creashed the site and ended up having to delete the site and start again.  (webhosting4life). I used their wizard to setup the intial site, which set me back to 4.5 , then upgraded it to 4.7.  The only thing I changed from the orgian install and upgrade was adding a simple skin and container.  I have minimal information and a minimal skin and the site is loading so slow that it keeps timeing out.  I am gettng constant alerts from host tracker as well so I know the application should not have to be recompling.

What I dont know is it DNN 4.7 or was it just a coincidence and the real culprit is Webhosting4life.  If anyone has had simialer slow downs after upgradiong to 4.7 please let me know.

Even though 4.7 seems to have some good features, I am afraid to upgrade the companiessite becuase of these problems.

AFAIK DNN 4.7.0 is not slower than previous versions (see this site), in fact, there have been small performance increases as well. This might be depending on your host's setup.

actually this site does appear slower to me, but I think its becuase some of he ads are taking time to load.  The site is so slow to load that my host tracking company sent me an email that says they have discontinued tracking and will not begin again until problem is resolved.

Markp:

Sorry about your bad experience.  I have a site I have been upgrading, starting with 3.x, a couple of 4.x versions, and now is at 4.7 and it is working great.  It is running on my own server though, which has two CPUs, 2GB of Ram, but it is kind of old so the CPUs are not super fast.  The line out is not super fast either.

Now, if you are talking about initial loading time, this has been documented ad-nauseum.  Nothing you can do but to use some way of keeping the site alive.

On the other hand, if you are talking about general performance of the site after it has been loaded, I don't think that 4.7 is inherently slower than previous versions.  There must be something going on with the configuration of your DNN installation or the infrastructure in Webhosting4life.  It could even be a bad coincidence, they may be having other problems.

Do you have a dedicated server or shared?  Have you checked how many other sites are running on your server?  If you want to check for other sites, I'd recommend http://whois.domaintools.com/.  Enter your site's URL, and then on the result page search for "Reverse IP".

One more thing, can you post more specific details about what happened during the upgrade that crashed the site?

Edit: forgot to mention that I remember reading that this site was (is) experiencing some problems that I don't think were caused by DNN, I forgot what it was now, you may want to do a search.

Carlos
