This may seem like a silly question but I am not able to get past this.  If I install DNN on my GoDaddy hosted account I am required to create a subdirectory.  The problem is when you type in the domain name only it does not pull up my DNN site since the site is loaded in a sub directory.  Is there an easier way to get it to work than creating a redirect in the domain root directory?

Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't believe there is an easier way. Godaddy, while cheap, is limited. Though I hear from a friend that you can now FTP into the installed DNN directory, which I don't believe you used to be able to do. Without that access upgrading was nearly impossible before.

I'm currently trying to do the same thing. I have it working except for an error I receive when click on the "Solutions Explorer" link/icon (full error described below).

Here are the instructions I followed from GD's "Hosting Connection" DNN user forum:

  1. Check that the Root and DNN directories have the same permissions (not sure if this is causing my error??)
  2. Backup both your DNN web installation and your database (DO THIS!!!!).
  3. Place html file called app_offline.htm into the DNN directory, taking the site offline (just create a simple HTML file that says something like "DNN is offline now").
  4. Update the database table containing the Portal Alias from mysite.com/DNN to simply mysite.com
  5. Move the contents of the current DNN folder into the root
  6. Update any references you might have in your web.config file to your old site path.
  7. Remove the app_offline.htm file

I've been able to add portals and users, use the site wizard, etc. BUT when I get to Solutions Explorer under the Admin dropdown menu, this is the error I receive:

DotNetNuke Error: - Version 04.07.00

I have now finalized a complete walk through on how to properly install DNN to the root of the hosting account for any Windows based Godaddy.com hosting account.  I have tested it and found it to be working very well so far so believe that this may solve your issues if you are willing to do a fresh installation, otherwise you can take a look over it to see if there is anything that you can take from it to help you out.  You can check it out free, no membership required, but membership is required to post any questions issues, but membership is also free so still no cost anyways no matter which way you go.
