Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist.

The project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio.

I only have Visual Web Dev Express - is that the problem??

thanks

Alan

I have the same problem.

I have a new Windows 2003 Web Edition server with SQL Express and Visual Web Dveloper installed. All Windows updates are ok.

I get this message when I try to install the Starter Kit.
Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist.  The project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio.

Please help me......

Thanks for the link!

This works out the problem:

1) navigate to: C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Templates   <-------- location depends on your installation, of course
2) here you'll find two folders: ItemTemplates and ProjectTemplates; in each of these folders create a new folder called Visual Basic
3) your new directory structure should look like:

         Visual Studio 2005/
                Templates/
                        ItemTemplates/
                                 Visual Basic/
                                 Visual Web Developer/
                        ProjectTemplates/
                                 Visual Basic/
                                 Visual Web Developer/

4) re-run the installer and it should work now
