A few issues related to a new install of 4.8 (I've had DNN installed from 3.x through 4.3 on a machine that's being decommissioned and there are no good docs on copying a DNN instalation to a new machine):

1.  No "Installation guide" is available in the 4.8 downloads except in the "developer docs" download. It might be nice to put it in all the downloaded packages.

2. The 4.8 "developer docs" come as a .zip that's named "4.4.1 docs". Someone might want to update that.

More as I go through this...

3. The 4.8 doc is dated 28 Nov 06 with version 1.0.3 while the version in Resources/Documentation/Detailed Installation guide is dated 20 June 07 with the same version number.

4. The doc's structure should be pivoted. Today, it's How-to-install-3.x / How-installing-4.x-is-different. I would suggest (yes, I'm complaining, give me the source to the doc and I'll rewrite it) that it be "Here are the steps for installing" with "Step 10: For 3.x do THIS, for 4.x do THAT". If we really want people to use the latest and greatest, then the docs should probably encourage that.

I have been maintaing documentation on how to Install, Upgrade, Backup, and Restore DotNetNuke portals since version 4.4.1.

All of these tutorials are available for free on my website http://www.mitchelsellers.com and are updated shortly after each new release of DNN if needed.

Well, not really.  The guide IS the 4.4.1 version.  Welcome to DNN documentation, or as it seems, documentation in the open source world in general.  Lots of volunteers to code, few to document.

Jeff
