I have installed DNN 4.0.2 and I am able to create a site on my local disk, but when I try to do the same on localhost I get all sorts of different errors, mostly related with access persmissions.  I have checked and double checked the permissions and they are the same on the local folder as they are on the localhost folder, but on localhost it just doesn't work.  I am using VS 2005 with SQLExpress.  Does anybody have any clues on what might be going on?

I am trying to find a resolution to the problem you describe. Thought I found it but there has never been a response posted to your question.

It's unfortunate that there are so many posts like this that lead to dead ends; no resolution was ever posted so trying to follow this through to see what happened was an exercise in futility...

No thanks to those that reply we should read the installation manual. That manual is minimal at best and certainly does not account for the complexities of the DNN framework, ASP.NET, and the many different variations of environments that exist.

Because Jeff added a post (the thread is sorted according to last post, even when this one is awaiting moderation).

Sorry for popping an "old post" onto the front page! Now I'll share my progress to hopefully let others know that there is a resolution. In a nutshell, it's an ASP.NET 2.0 problem that I was running up against, having nothing to do with DNN. My environment is a laptop running XP Pro and IIS 5, so I still need to use the ASPNET account for NTFS permissions and not NETWORK SERVICE. I could not get it to work either way regardless; I was unable to get past the File System Security Check of the Installation Wizard. RESOLUTION: I went into the ASP.NET configuration utility (available on the ASP.NET tab of the IIS properties dialog) and set up impersonation to use my local account. Once I did that, it worked like a champ. A better solution may have been to reinstall IIS to ensure that the ASPNET account was correctly configured. There were also many articles about getting the worker threads to use the same credentials as the primary executable. But given that this is my personal laptop on which I do all my development, I didn't think the juice was worth the squeeze at this point. Hope this helps SOMEBODY!
