I just installed an evaluation version of windows home server.   I was wondering if anyone has installed sql server express / dotnetnuke on this and gotten it working.  It appears to have a version of IIS running with no connection limit.

Thanks.

Give it a try and let us know.  :)

WHS isn't designed to run DNN, it's mostly a file/media sharing server for home use, but it does have IIS 7.

I did give it a try and it seems to work fine.  As best I can tell WHS is a stripped down version of Server 2003 with IIS.  I just installed sql express and the 4.8 install files and created a virtual directory and it worked fine.  I could get it to go across my local home network, I didnt try to get to it from the outside through my linksys router although I see no reason why it wouldnt work.   I bought the 120 evaluation software for $5 and put it on an old AMD machine with a single hard drive.

WHS seems to be a small web application which is written and runs on the system and doesnt seem to have crippled it too much.

I am curious what others know or have found.

the problem is probably in the http alias you defined in your dnn install. Other pc's cannot reference your pc by "localhost", they either need to use the ip address, or a hostname. Either way, you need to enter that info in the http alias list of your portal. To do that, log on as host, go to admin > site settings, and scroll to the bottom of the page. Add a new http alias containing the name others will use to browse to the site

Of course: you will also need to check firewall settings. Port 80 (http) needs to be opened in your firewall
