I am trying to install 4.8 on my XP laptop using SQL Express and the Install zip file. I'm having an odd error and would appreciate some help. I have searched the Install It! Forum and browsed through quite a few postings without seeing my problem or a close approximation.

Preparation

  • Uunzipped the files into C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke
  • Granted the user ASP.NET full access to the new directory
  • Created the database DotNetNuke with SQL Express
  • Added the virtual directory DotNetNuke in IIS 5.1
  • Added default.aspx to the list of Default Documents
  • Confirmed the website's ASP.Net version is 2.0.50727
  • Modified web.config setting AttachDBFilename in both places to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\DotNetNuke.mdf

Problem
When I open a browser to localhost/dotnetnuke the browser displays the contents of default.aspx rather than procesing the file.

Questions

  1. Did I miss anything in terms of prep?
  2. How can I get default.aspx to be processed instead of displayed?

Thanks,
Matthew

Did you configure the virtual directory as an application?  Are you running security software that might block scripts?

Jeff,

The virtual directory is set up as follows:

  • Application Name = DotNetNuke
  • Execute Permissions = Scripts Only
  • Application protection = Medium (Pooled)

I have McAfee running. It is the corporate version and is locked down. I don't think it is getting in the way. I can view the logs it creates. I did not see anything in the logs indicating it was stopping the DNN Scripts. I browsed to the site using IE and reviewed the logs again. Nothing in the logs to say it was blocking the DNN scripts.

Thanks,
Matthew

The response is typical of a site without ASP.NET installed.  Try navigating to the ASP.NET files and running aspnet_regiis -i and see if that corrects it.  Might also try the IIS forums at www.iis.net.

Make sure that your version of IIS is set-up for ASPX files to be processed by the correct worker process.  (This exact process will vary depending on the version of IIS you have.)  You want to find an entry in your ISAPI filters that points ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0 (filter name) to C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_filter.dll (executable).  The file path may vary from machine to machine.  Also, set this ISAPI filter to LOW priority.
