You situation is unfortunate.  Upgrading does not necessarily mean that anything will be fixed, other than what is listed in the release notes for the specific version.  You could try.  I would suggest clicking on the suggested upgrade path link in my signature for more guidance on a version to upgrade to.

Very very careful to back everything up prior to upgrading and do it during non-peak hours, as I am sure you are already aware of.  This will allow you to restore the site more easily should problems occur.  I would also suggest disabling any other work flows or any other areas that could create a point of contention in synchronization.

I've seen your upgrade path page when I was looking on how to upgrade info, but as I wrote before, I didn't have experience with any of 4.7 or 4.8, so I  tried the  4.5.5.

I'll try one of them and get back with the result.

10x for taking the time to respond to my thread :)

Most of the updates in v4.07 and v4.08 are not related to the user-interface (some are).  Most are bug fixes, and inclusion of features like SSL pages, and Human Friendly URLs.  However regardless of the version you choose, the upgrade process is the same.  If nothing else, I would suggest moving to v4.06.02.
