Hello,

We have a site originally with DotNetNuke 4.4.1 that was giving a lot of errors, mainly with the FTB html provider but lately it wouldn't let us do changes in the settings, so I upgraded to 4.5.5 following Mitchel Sellers guide. Unfortunately the problems remain - I can only edit text in Basic Text editor and most of the time can't save changes to settings. The site has online shop (CATALook .netstore) which I could only upgrade to match the DotNetNuke version  with “Install/Install.aspx?mode=InstallResources" - the Modules Definition page only refreshed when I tried upgrading from there.

The site is in a shared hosting environment - Windows 2003 Server Web Edition SP2 + SQL Server 2005 Express + .Net Framework 2.0.50727.832.

Because this is a site with a shop any promptly response is much appreciated.

Have you tried moving to the FCKEditor provider?  If that doesn't work, can you post your errors?

I installed the FCK provider 1.0.0.9 BEFORE the upgrade of DotNetNuke.

There was an error because it turned out not all of the files were uploaded successfully. I uploaded again but still I couldn't edit except inline but that somehow changed some of the inline styles!!

Next thing I tried was to upgrade just the text editor (to 4.05), but as others I missed the fact it requires DNN 4.5.x. so I downgraded back to 3.03.

Then I did the upgrade to DNN 4.5.5.

Problem is while it doesn't apply changes to the settings it doesn't log errors as well :(

The only errors loged after the upgrade are prior the upgrade of the CATALook .netstore to match the DNN version and some strange smtp errors for the CATALook after the upgrade - strange because it says something like smtp is not set but when I check the store settings smtp is set.

And while editing text in rich text editor isn't working all the time, I can make changes to settings (module, portal, host) on irregular base.

I'm really puzzled.

Sadly, I would suggest that you revist the original errors that cause this problem, as nothing tried so far has worked in making them go away.  Are you able to downgrade your portal instance and post your errors?

Unfortunately, there were orders when the site was operational and restoring the database for a downgrade is highly undesireable :(

I was thinking about trying an upgrade again (DNN 4.6.2, 4.7 or 4.8 although I haven't tried 4.7 and I managed to crash install 4.8 locally). What is the chance an upgrade would fix some if not all problems?

btw. the site had issues even before it became my responsibility - it is very difficult to find where it started really to mess up.

I found that most of the errors in the log were from the FTB - from what I've found here in the forums the presence of only en-US Language pack(the site uses en-GB) was the cause. But the inability to change settings is more recent and I don't think it's related to the FTB since I'm using FCK as default html provider.
