Hi guys,

I've tried unsuccesfully to install a second instance of dotnetnuke 3.2.2 on my webserver, my first installation is version 3.1 and is working great. With my hosting package I'm allowed 2 MSsql databases so I've made all the neccessary changes to the webconfig file on the second installation, and the upload/installation folder has been set as an application folder with full permissions, I've pointed a domain to the installation folder but the installation will not initialize and I'm getting a bog standard error message.

My question is, can I have 2 separate dotnetnuke installations in my webspace, do I need to make an an alteration in the web.config file to allow it? The reason I want to install a second instance is for experimental and testing purposes without messing up my live installation, which I've managed to do a couple of times in the past.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Joe

The easiest way to install 2 instances of DNN is to install them as sub applications / virtual directories of your main site. E.g. domain.com/dnn1 and domain.com/dnn2. You can then have a Default.aspx page in the root of your site redirecting visitors to the live site version, so you'd have to know the url to kick off the test version rather than have causal visitors stumble across it.

However - if you're DNN installation is in a medium trust environment beware that there are potential complications - check out this post for details.

Hope that helps,
Gavin.
