Same for me.
Same Firefox message.
Last good install is 4.6.2

Upgrading to 4.7.0 and get this problem
Backup 4.6.2 
Upgrading to 4.8.0 ans get this problem
Trying manual install, wizard and i get allways the same problem.

With Internet Explore, no error message, only a neverending loading page.

(now we are three with the same problem)

More information

I upload a page app_offline.htm to see what happend

Firefox show the page, Internet explorer get a 404 HTML ERROR  (file not found) !

I try with app_offlinee.htm and app_offline.html (no difference)

That's strange.

obviously, the web site is not handled correctly by ASP.net 2.0, make sure, the .Net framework is installed correctly and asp.net has been registered.

Thank for your reply.

I don't understand why i have this problem with the 4.7 and 4.8. The 4.6.2 works fine.

I try to install a new version (not upgrading) with the 4.7 and the 4.8 and I got this problem no with the 4.6.2

What is the difference between 4.6 and 4.7-4.8? It is the use of AJAX ?

While installing DNN on a windows 2K server, I get the error on the DNN Compiled Module VB "Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist.  The project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio."

Any clue how I can resolve this error? my email is aafrica@smconst.com
