The "DotNetNuke 4.8.0 Install" download is described as:

"Contains only the files needed for a run-time deployment to a web server"

And yet it's filled with source code files.  I don't understand that at all.  It was necessary for me to modify some source for my site, and everything was working fine locally, so I decided to build the solution, and upload the new dll's.  Ater hours and hours trying to find out why my changes weren't working, I realized it's because my DNN site is ignoring my shiny new DLL's because it is compiling the .vb files from the install kit.  At least that's the only thing I can figure.  Worse, when I deleted all the source files from my site, it no longer runs at all.  Anyone have tips on how to compile from source and deploy WITHOUT the source files?

Thanks.

A DotNetNuke installation consists of two parts: the solution with the business layer, which gets compiled using VS Studio professional (or above) into the DotNetNuke.dll (in source package, the files are all placed in the Library directory) and the UI Layer, which is placed inside the WebSite folder of the Source package and gets JIT compiled on first call. Modules can be created either as WSP for JIT compilation or precompiled as WAP.

Thank you for the explanation.  I eventually gave up on trying to compile the UI layer, and just dropped my modified VB files into the website which worked.  But it's good to hear some confirmation of what I learned the hard way.  Thank you!
