I successfully upgraded a development source install of DNN to 4.0.8 from 3.77. The site works great.

When I open the solution file in VS 2005 it tells me it needs to convert the project. I see lots of permission errors and I am unable to compile. Can anyone shed any light on what I should do once I upgrade and I want to compile my 4.0.8 solution with VS 2005 for the first time?  One other note: My solution is on a network drive.

Thank you very much for your response. This has helped me out tremendously. I also found reading the Upgrade documentation that comes with the install packages has a wealth of information as well.  So am is this how things work:

• If I am going from 3.x install to 4.x install then I can use the install package and upgrade as usual.
• If I am going from 3.x source to 4.x source then I need to install a clean source 4.x version and then use the wizard to upgrade the 3.x modules to 4.x?

It looks like I will lose the data that was in development. Will I be able to just copy the database tables of modules of my 4.x install down to my 4.x development?
