HI,

I'm sure this question have been answered before but i cant find any post related to that question.

I would like to install dotnetnuke on a vrtual directory but i dont want to access the portal using www.mydomain.com/dotnetnuke  I would like to go to my website using just the domain name www.mydomain.com.

Is it possible to do that without installing dotnetnuke on wwwroot?

If its possible, i will host 3 websites and i would like to access these websites using their own domain name www.mydomain.com www.mydomain2.com and www.mydomain3.com is it possible?

Thanx.

if you want to call DNN as domain root, you need to install it in an IIS web site, not a virtual directory inside.

in IIS web site you can assign as many domain names as you would like using host headers, if you are on shared hosting, please ask your hosting provider.

All domain names need to point to the DotNetNuke web site, the DotNetNuke installation can host multiple portals with individual domain addresses.

Hello Tonkadan, i guess you are using a shared hosting which does not give you option to install dnn at root level. For your scenario, its possible with some effort to install dnn at root level and host multiple dnn portals (with their unique names) from there.

I published a few tutorials about;

  • Installing DotNetNuke with Auto-install wizard of Godaddy
  • How to Move DotNetNuke to Root Path of your hosting account
  • How to Upgrade DotNetNuke
  • How to Create Multiple Parent Portals (with Top Level Domains)

If you have a competible host , dns access and some dnn knowledge this wouldn't be so difficult to achieve.

Install it in a subfolder and use a redirect, either a file or in IIS, to send it to whatever folder you wish.  The folder name will always appear in the working URL.  As for additional sites with additional domains, same thing.  Provided your host allows it of course.
