I installed 4.6.2 into the root, with full permissions. The files went in fine, hit the www.domain.org/install/install.aspx..... everything was successfull then clicked the link to go to the portal and I get a HTTP 403 Forbidden page error;

This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.
For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.

What is going on? I have read other post about checking the alias name to be sure there isn't anything \xxxxx after the domain, but where is this "table" to check. I check the DNS settings with the hoting provider and they are correct. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Can you access the default page directly? www.domain.com/default.aspx

If so, then It looks like someone modifed permissions or authentication via IIS Manager.

In any case it is fundamentally an authorization error.

Thanks for your post. I tried to hit the default.aspx page and it redirected me to www.domain.org/install/ and returned the following message.

Directory Listing Denied

This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.

I think this goes back to the other post on the portal alias having the "/install" called out in it, but where can I edit the portal alias name in the "table" they refer to? I'm not sure the location of this table.

Thanks for your post...
