I have an interesting question that I have been curious about for a while now.

Can DotNetNuke be installed on a Linux platform?  If so is there an installation guide for it.? I would like to see how this is done, and maybe play a little bit.  I realize that DotNetNuke uses ASP.NET which as far as I know does not work on a Linux platform, but is there a workaround for it.

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

You could try a virtual machine running on linux with windows installed in it. You should be able to install DNN in this windows virtual machine.

Good luck,

Regards,
Marc

I can install it on a virtual Machine with windows that is true.  I have several virtual Machines with DotNetNuke installed on them.  I was asking because on my personal computer that I have at home.  I wanted to try to experiment by running a virtual machine with Linux on it and trying to install DotNetNuke on it.  Just to see if it could be done, and I was looking for any help on the subject that I could get.  This is just because Im weird and like to do things like this in my spare time.

Since DotNetNuke needs the .NET Framework it is NOT possible to host it on Linux....at least not without some special gateway application.

I have heard of people using a program called Grasshopper in the past, but I don't know if it works or no.

Personally since you also need SQL Server, I just do not see a point to trying...

I don't see a point either except just for fun.
