Eventhough I have Win XP pro and SQL express mine still fails with the installation.  I noticed that "home" folder and its contents are not getting created after the installation. Has anyone faced a similar situation, any leads are much appreciated

Thanks

Excellent instructions on getting DNN 4.02 installed!  There are two things that could be adjusted:

1. Update webconfig file would be easier if you showed exaclty how it should look in the <connectionStrings> area. So I'll post mine here:

<connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=DUNE\SQLExpress;Database=DotNetNuke;User ID=DNN123;Password=pass123;Connection Timeout=5; Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

2. Items b. and c. really arn't necessary.

Thanks for  the instructions Kathy, solid stuff.

Kathryn's walkthrough has to be THE most helpful I've seen. Better than DotNetNuke's 2 bit readme.txt.

Some issues that Kathryn never brought up is:

When creating the web site that allows you to create the virtual directory, the website path has to be the folder that directly contains the DotNetNuke.sln file, Library folder and Website folder. No one ever points this stuff out. Instead I gotta waste 3 days getting this thing to work, not knowing what the heck could be messing it up.

On her step 4a: I didn't have any medium application pool option to select from the dropdown box, so I used default for a while. I also made my own. I don't think that made a difference. Use the default if you have no choice.

On her 4d: I didn't have any ASP.net tab in IIS, although I do have ASP.net 2.0 running on the server.

On her 5b: In Tools > Folder Options - view tab, I didn't have any option to use simple file sharing (recommended) - that may be an OS thing though.

On her 5c, d: It isn't clear if you use the "sa" account, corrupt it and have to reinstall SQL Server again, like I did :), or you choose a new account. Best try the latter.

I have it working now, after having every possible thing go wrong, and need debugging. I prolly started it 7 or 8 times.
I know how it feels to be desperate for the answer, so if I can be of assistence, lemme know.

Thanks for the info,

I have been able to get the program to successfully install in this configuration; however it is loading SO slow!  Even after the initial loading where caching and compiling is happening, it is SLOW (over a 60-120 second per request).  I am noticing that the images are loading exceptionally slow which is highy unusual considering they are simply located on the server.  I tried installing 7 different times with three different version.  All of them installed correctly but have this same problem.  I would like to think that is not related to the product but I have several other asp.net application running on this environment which are loading quickly.  Any thoughts??

Another thing I have noticed is that when I run the app in my visual studio (using the internal web server) it loads quite a bit faster.  I cannot seem to figure out why this is happening as it seems to be a black box.  The processor is not going out of control nor is the sql instance showing any large hits.  I am two days into fiddling and have not gotten any closer; soon I will have to explore a different solution which would be unfortunate due to my interest in the dotnetnuke community.  Thoughts??

Best,

Joe
