I'm having similar problems, and have tried what I could of the suggestions on this thread.  The error I'm getting is:

Error 102 Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. B:\Inetpub\wwwroot\MICDNN\admin\Containers\actions.ascx 3

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Web.Config - welcome.html tells you to edit the lines

<add name="DotNetNuke" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"

(Will someone in the development team PLEASE update these images in welcome.html!! name=DotNetNuke  is wrong and very misleading to first time installers who are following your instructions exactly.)

I'm using VWDexpress and msSSexpress and followed the welcome.html instructions only to have multiple errors.  If the above quote is correct then this may solve my issues.  I'm going to delete everything and start from scratch.

A number of poeple on this thread received an error message similar to this one:

Could not find file 'E:\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites\DotNetNuke Website1\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\DotNetNuke_template.mdf'.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'E:\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites\DotNetNuke Website1\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\DotNetNuke_template.mdf'.

Source Error:

Line 84:
Line 85: 'Determine the Upgrade status and redirect to Install.aspx
Line 86:             Select Case GetUpgradeStatus()
Line 87: Case Globals.UpgradeStatus.Install, Globals.UpgradeStatus.Upgrade
Line 88: If AutoUpgrade Then

... and yet, I didn't  see any definitive answers on what went wrong during the installation process.  I've the same problem.

I can appreciate that a number of us are doing something wrong - but in that case,  I have to say that the instructions are leading a group of people down the wrong path.  Some help would really appreciate it.  I have some skinning clients that want version 4 updates and it's a bit of a trick if I cna't run version 4!

Cheers!

In 4.0 code was added that attempted to create the database file specified in the connections string by copying from a template file if the database specified was not found (similarly to how the old Access Provider worked.

Unfortunately, this code never worked, as it appeared that the database could not be created this way and then opened in the same request, so the template file was removed from the package.

However the code still runs, if the database.mdf file is missing.  This causes a misleading error,

You need to create the database first
