G'Day,

I am hosting my own (personal) site on my own server. I have been looking to upgrade it to something that has a 'plugin' type framework so I can add the functionality I want... DNN seems to fit the bill.

Great work!

After a few fauls starts, I stumbled upon a thread in this forum that suggested the 'Starter Kit' version. Tried that and all went well (that is, once I worked my way through the redirect to localhost thing. Again, thanks to the folks in this forum). Thanks hooligannes!

For my next trick I want to install the Blog module.

Unfortunatly, I can't find and basic, step-by-step, stupid proof, 'for dumbies' instructions.

I have gotten to the part where I'm logged in as host; Gone to Modules Definitions; Upload New Module.

The problem is that the module is, as you would know, a hole bunch of files (I have the install version). The upload interface only lets me upload one file at a time.

So how the HECK do I install module (I'm sure it's very easy and I'm missing something very fundamental).

Thanks,

Baggy

Hi Baggy - we all started somewhere - even today I learnt something new.

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/guidedtour/

That's a good place to get started.

Look for the zip file that says - install.zip that's the one you need to add to install the module.

Once you get one right - you'll understand how it all works.

Good luck and enjoy the DNN experience - .. sometimes coffee, patience and occasionally a stronger drink is required on some days.

Thanks Nina...

I just remembered I would give you the error messeage that is being generated:

Failure ExceptionSystem.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a closed file. at System.IO.__Error.FileNotOpen() at System.IO.FileStream.Seek(Int64 offset, SeekOrigin origin) at System.Web.HttpRawUploadedContent.TempFile.GetBytes(Int32 offset, Int32 length, Byte[] buffer, Int32 bufferOffset) at System.Web.HttpRawUploadedContent.CopyBytes(Int32 offset, Byte[] buffer, Int32 bufferOffset, Int32 length) at System.Web.HttpInputStream.Read(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count) at ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.Zip.ZipInputStream.FillBuf(Int32 size) at ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.Zip.ZipInputStream.GetNextEntry() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.ReadZipStream() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install()

I am trying to upload the 'install' zip file.

Cheers,

Baggy

Hmm I have had this happen before - why don't you try to unzip the file - go into the directory and rezip it.. sometimes I have had issues with zip file when downoading.. and this has resolved the problem, but not saying it will.. it's been something I've found has helped.

Nup. Same problem. I was installing from network drive so I also tried to move it to my local drive. I also tried it on the local server. Still no good.

I might try another module and see if the same thing happens. If not, it might be the install package (though I doubt it).
