I have just inherited a DotNetNuke site and I know slighlty less than enough about DotNetNuke to be dangerous with it.  My first question is, how can I find out what version we are currently running so I know what upgrade path to take.  I think the last time the software was updated was about 18 months ago.

Thanks.

If you have a HOST or superuser login, login as that user and go to the Host/Host Settings page, it should say the version at the top of this page.

If not, and you can access the database there should be a Versions table with records of which version you are running.

OK, so I was able to finally get access to the database and found we are running version 4.0.2.  Time to update.  However in the process of getting access to the database, I had to reset the password.  Now that the password is reset, DotNetNuke won't connect to the database.  Where can I go and change this password in DotNetNuke?

you need to place the password in two places in your web.config file (usually around line 20).

For performing upgrade to current version, you can follow this check list: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/186/Default.aspx

Besides, I suggest to upgrade in multiple steps, intalling 4.3.7, 4.4.1, 4.6.2 and current version and always check upgrade logs carefully.

Well, now I have a whole new set of problems.

1) The person who was running the site either can't or won't tell me the Host password.  Is there a way to reset this password in the database?  I tried setting the admin account to IsSuperUser, but then I could not log in.  Is there more than one place I need to change this?

2) Our hosting company had installed DotNetNuke in a folder called "ws" which was hidden from me and I could not make any changes to anything in it.  They have copied the "ws" folder into a subfolder in our directory called "dotnetnuke".  However when I access the "dotnetnuke" folder, it redirects to the "ws" folder.  Is the installed folder written in a file I can edit since all they did was copy.

I would like to get the current version working in the dotnetnuke directory and then go about upgrading that directory.  I assume I will need the host password or another superuser account to upgrade.  I'm also sure I will have more questions as the process continues.  Thanks all for your help.
