I have went through the configuration steps, but when I hit IE to http://localhost/dotnetnuke which is setup to go to the DotNetNuke Directory I get the following error in the browser.. What am I missing.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Thanks,

Can you set the customError mode to Off? Then hit the site again.  That should give you the actual error.  If you see the issue and can fix it great, if not, post the new error message so we can see it.

I also had to deal with a runtime error. Turning the customErrors 'Off' did not affect the output. After a while I discovered a problem in web.config that I have been editing. Visual Studio 2005 stated that a '--' within a comment  ( <!-- --> ) is not allowed in xml.

Removing the '--' resolved the problem.

Hmmm.... I have the same problem but the mode was set to off from the beginning. Odd. What to do? Is it like the nice SQL thing where it lies in several places in the file?
