I just installed Windows Server 2008, MSSQL2008, and IIS7. I have the DotNetNuke install(newest release).

Question

1: I would like to know how to go about installing, is it anyhing like or the same as installing on Vista with MSSQL2005Express? If not, I need intructions.

2. After the install and the builing of the website how do i go about accessing the site from the outside, such as work?

I have not worked with Win Server 2008 yet myself, but I believe the installation process should be similar to that of a Windows Vista installation.

If you want to access it from remotely you would need to be accessing it via the ip address of the server, or if you hve configured a domain name and pointed it to the server you would use that address.  You will need to add an HTTPAlias for the desired address via the Site Settings when logged in as a host user.

Okay, well I followed your video tutorial for vista on WS2008. I go to install from the web browser and i get:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.08.02

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

So I copied the original Web.config back to the folder and only changed the DataBase=nameofdatabase; then ran the InstallWizard as Typical and got:

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 20
Number: 2
Message: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

So I followed this guide http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277 to enable remote connections with TCP/IP and namepipes and still get the same error.Any ideas?

That error isn't always correct and there are a number of reasons you can get it.  With DNN it almost always indicates an error in the connection string or a misconfiguration on SQL Server, but there may be other possibilities with SQL 2008.  It can even be a firewall setting.
