Hi,

I haven't installed DNN since version 3. I found a nice article that talks about DNN 4.8.x installation but I want to confirm that I'm setting it up the right way. Looks like there's been a few changes:

  1. I used to set up a blank site using IIS and blank database on SQL Server
  2. I'd then unzip DNN into the root of the new site I created in Step 1
  3. I'd then edit web.config to point to my database in the connection strings section
  4. The last step was to just point my browser to default.aspx page of this new site

Do I not go through these steps anymore -- except for setting up the website? I got the impression that the new install wizard even sets up the database.

Do I just set up a blank site and point my browser to default.aspx?

Thanks,

Sam

Yes, the default wizard will setup the connectionString for you.  I usually still set it in the web.config first (more out of habit than necessity).  The wizard really makes the installation easy.  The exception to this is if you choose the auto installation option on the first page of the wizard, which then runs the install just like it did before the install wizard was created.
