I'm a brand new user trying to learn DNN. I have Windows hosting at Network Solutions. They offer DNN with their web hosting so I went into my hosting control panel and installed it. It seems to work ok but now I would like to update. When I login as host it tells me there is a new version so I downloaded the "upgrade" package.

Then I FTP'd into my site and the directory where I installed DNN and simply uploaded everything in the upgrade package, overwriting the existing files. Now when I I try to go to my DNN site I get this error:

---------------

Security Exception

Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy.  To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file.

Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

---------------

Did I upgrade properly? Does my host have to upgrade it or can I do it myself?

Thanks for any help.

Looks like the server ACLs are preventing your work process from reading/writing certain files. You may want to contact your provider and inquire about their NTFS ACL setup on their server.

Also, you have not mentioned the web.config file. It is critical that you copy original MachineKey and ValidationKey from your original web.config to a new one. If you do not do this before running upgrade, all registered user including host and admin will not be able to login.

We have a KB article detailing upgrade process here https://support.ihostllc.net/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=41
