Hello,

Ik have a problem installing DNN8.4.8. First the steps I made.
In a clear installation of Windows XP (SP2)  I installed the following software:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
- MSXML 6.0 Parser
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express
- Microsoft Server Management Studio Express

After this I created a new SQL-database with a own loginname and password
The DotNetNuke 4.8.4 (Source) is unzipped in c:\Inetpub and release.config is copied to web.config.
In IIS 5.1 a new virtual map is created which is linked to the DNN-directory (c:\Inetpub\DNN\website).
Now the security of the DNN-directory is set to ASP.NET (full control)

In the internet explorer the dnn-dite is started (http://localhost/dnn)
The installation wizard is shown and in step 1 the custom installation method is choosen.
In step 2 the file permissions are checked and this is ok.
In step 3 the database connection is configured (SQL Server 2005 (Express) file is set, Server and filename are set, integrated security= FALSE, userid and password are set,Run as dbOwner=TRUE).

When testing the database connection the following error occures:
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance. The connection will be closed

What am I doing wrong?
I found on the web that the property User Instance must be set to false, but that doesn't fix the problem.

I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

The solution is not that easy. I searched the internet a lot but I found no solution.

I tried to install DNN4.8.4 on a clean Vista Home Premium-PC.
The differences between now and the other installation are:
- Now Vista is the OS
- I used the install-version in stead of the source-version
- IIS7.0 is used in stead of IIS5.1
- With the security the option NETWORK SERVICES is used in stead of ASPNET

When running the installationwizard of DNN the same error occures.

The only things I can think of is:
- I'm doing something wrong in SQL 2005 Express
- A change must be made to the web.config

I hope someone can help me now.

I have found the answer myself.
When configuring the database connection in the wizard there is a choice between SQL Server 2005 (express) file and SQL Server 2000/2005 database.
First I have choosen the first option. When setting up the server and filename, the error occured.
Now I have choosen the second option and set up the server and database.

The whole installation (XP and Vista) works fine now.
