I unzipped the 4.8.4 upgrade zip on top of my current dnn install and when I go to the main portal, I get the screen below... again and again. I debugged the code and noticed that the version is hard coded as 'Public Const glbAppVersion As String = "04.08.03" in the globals.vb file. Since this never matches the database version, it goes into upgrade mode. However globals.vb is not included in the upgrade zip so how do the two version match then?

So do I need to change 04.08.03 to 04.04.04?

Also where's the upgrade docs? There was no upgrade docs link by the upgrade download link. There was no upgrade instructions in the docs zip. There's no upgrade docs inside the upgrade zip. So why the lack of proper easy to find upgrade documentation!?

Also shouldn't the message below say "Upgrading to Version: 4.8.4" instead of "Upgrading to Version: 4.8.3"?

you need to ensure that all the files have been copied over, the version should be correct in the 4.8.4 version. Please also make sure that your web.config file has write permissions, the upgrade may need to write to it. Finally, make sure you've got the correct version of ajax installed - http://www.bestwebsites.co.nz/dotnetnuke/solving-the-dotnetnuke-redirect-loop/

Yes I tell winzip to overwrite all files. web.config always had write permissions. The upgrade doesn't overwrite but I went ahead and made sure. The link you provided is not what I am experiecing.

The problem is like what I have said. The mismatch in versions is because the version stored in the database is not the same one hard coded in globals.vb so that's why dnn thinks it need to upgrade. What I don't understand is if the version # in globals.vb doesn't get updated because the upgrade zip doesn't contain a newer version of globals.vb, how is this version comparison ever going to succeed and skip the upgrade? I did change the version # in globals.vb and recompiled and I don't get the issue anymore but still don't know how this upgrade is supposed to work without a manual change.

Also where are the instructions for deploying the upgrade? Maybe I am missing a step or is it just a straight unzip?
