Using Windows XP SP3 with VS2008 with all latest updates...complete newbie to DNN.

Following the instructions in "DotNetNuke Installation Guide.pdf" in the documents download to install DotNetNuke_X.Y.Z_StarterKit.vsi

Question 1) "Update to ASP.net 3.5"
I got the standard message when you open a asp.net 2.x web site in VS08 ASP.NET 3.5, do you want to update the web to 3.5.  I indicated yes.  I presume that is correct?

Question 2) "Run Database Installation Scripts"
The text connection worked fine and I clicked next.  It made it to this point in my 1st installation.  It just sat on this page for a hour, with the progress bar repeating itself. I exited, rebooted and tried again with a new website name.

My 2nd attempt failed when I tested connection with a full page error of " 'Invalid value for key 'attachdbfilename'."  The instance (DNNSQLEXPRESS) connects fine in SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Any idea what is going on?  There is little explaination of the SQL instance needed in the PDF file, is there a URL that better explains this part of installation?

Question 3) The install forces you to use SQL 05 Express.  Can you use SQL 08 express and if so are their instructions on how to do that?

Thanks!

Bob

Is this your first install?   Are you wanting to develop against DNN or just run it?  If you just want to run it I suggest the traditional method as it is quite straight forward if you have a general understanding of IIS and SQL.
