Hi
I need help with an Alias Problem.
It´s a fresh installation of DNN402 using the install.zip

Windows Server 2003
ASP.NET 2
SQL Server 2005
DNN is in wwwroot
installed as Virtual Directory under Default Website

I followed carefuly the installation instructions. After fixing some problems with authentication at SQL-Server the DNN-Installation finished successfuly. But it is no not possible to access any portal by an alias name. I checked the PortalAlias table in the database. But to me it seems to be correct.

PortalAliasID, PortalID, HTTPAlias
1, 0, www.name1.de/DotNetNuke
2,1, www.name2.de
3,0, www.name1.de

Only the first entry works (because its the "physical" address in my opinion). If you use alias 2 or 3 the browser shows the start page of the "Default Website". I have already reinstalled everything with no other result.

Please give me some hints!
And pleas tell me, how to access my new portal without working aliases!

Thanks,
Stefan

Sorry for posting the same topic two times....

I now have thrown the virtual directory away and configured the dotnetnuke folder as basic folder of "Default Website". Everything seems to be OK.

But thats not the way the documentation proposes. So do I have to expect big problems with not using a virtual directory? And how do you get this alias stuff working when using virtual dirs?

Best Regards
Stefan
