I have been working on a local DNN site with great success.  Now I need to create a DNN server to host our intranet.  I am using MS Server 2003 and IIS 6.0.  I have been unable to get the server to work with my DNN site.  I have installed the .NET frameworks, and have configured the DNN site the same as the one on my local PC.  I have edited with web.config file to point to the proper SQL server.  But the default.aspx page will not display, even on the server running under Localhost.  Is there some documentation on how to set up a remote DNN server?  Everything I read talks about setting up DNN on your local server, then contracting out for a DNN server.  But we want to use one in-house for our intranet.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Marsha

Marsha,

I've used this approach to determine if the problem is with IIS, with ASP.NET, or with DotNetNuke.

  1. Put a simple index.htm file in the root directory.  If, on browsing to your site, that file is served, then IIS is pointed to the right site and working.
  2. Rename index.htm to app_offline.htm.  If the file is served now, that means that ASP.NET is also working.  (Some errors with the DotNetNuke web.config file or other DotNetNuke errors can keep this file from being served, I think.)
  3. If the prior 2 steps work, then remove app_offline.htm.  Any errors now are due to DotNetNuke installation issues.

What does display?  Have you tried specifying Default.aspx on your URL?  Did you enable ASP.NET as a web service (IIS 6)?  Check www.iis.net for help installing and configuring IIS.

My IIS may not be set up correctly.  (I did not load it - one of our server guys did)  The default.htm file displays when I put it in the url.  When I put the url for the site, my browser redirects me to my localhost/default.aspx.  I used to get a 404 error, but now I get this crazy redirection.

I have enabled ASP.NET as a web service.  I did not install IIS - one of our server techs did.  When I add default.aspx to the url, I get redirected to my localhost/default.aspx on my pc.  I used to get a 404 on my pc.  When I am on the IIS server, I get a 400 error.

I believe I may need to reinstall IIS.  Also, what DNN files do I need to install on the server?  Do I need to run the source package, or will the startup version work?

Thanks,

Marsha
