Has anyone ever upgraded from an older version (ie. 3.3x) to a newer 4.x version using the procedure outlined in the DNN documentation?

I am running into the following error in Global.asax on line 83:

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Line 81:

Joesph,

The error's not familiar to me (hopefully someone else can help though it looks like the connection strings in the web.config might be hosed for some reason).

But, I can tell you that, having been in the same multiple-verison upgrade situation, that the only way was able to succesfully upgrade from that far back was to go one minor rev at a time rather than trying to do this all in one big jump.

Hope that's helpful and best of luck.

Dave

I agree, you should do the following:

  1. Upgrade first to the latest version of DNN 3.x.x
  2. Then Upgrade to the Initial stable build of DNN 4.x.x
  3. Finally, upgrade to the latest version of DNN 4.9.0

Hope that helps.
