Hi.

I'm stuck with the following problem: For performance reasons I would like to develop modules locally. Thus I created a local installation of DNN (4.9).

However I would like to use the live remote database so that I have original data at hand. So during installation I set the connection string to the remote database.

When I open my local portal it redirects to the live portal. I played around with the portal alias and added "localhost/mydnn". No succes, because the ASP.NET development works on a specific port. Adding localhost:2983/mydnn reports an infinte redirect loop error.

Is it generally possible what I'm planning? If not, what would be best practice?

Any help appreciated.

This is similar to some of our client specific projects. You can set up a virtual directory in IIS on your develpment computer, using localhost/mydnn. Make sure the portalalias entry is in the portalalias table and restart the website. If you have access to the remote database, you should be able to hit the site locally.

Does that mean, I would need to install IIS locally? Currently I use the ASP.NET development webserver (Cassini), which seems to be the problem as it uses random ports on localhost.

You can try using a specific port for the VS development server and then putting that in your portalalias table. I have not personally tried that, but I believe that should work.
