OK, I've done this twice now. Have a client with Network Solutions hosting. I create the db, ftp all 4.09 install files up. Run the regular configuration wizard. All tests for db and file connectivity are fine. It installs all db scripts. I give it host password, it's happy. I give it Admin password, and it clocks. Then barfs with a runtime error. Changing the mode="RemoteOnly" to mode="Off" in the web.config file yields the following after I rerun /default.aspx:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

Stack Trace:

Please help! I've run these installs many times, and it's just fine...

Thanks for anyone who can suggest what to do next.

Tom

From the error it would lead me to believe that the portal was not properly configured during the install process.

Have you thought of using the auto install process rather than the wizard?

I haven't used the auto-install. I've done this many many times in various version of DNN 4.x, and it's pretty straight forward stepping through the wizard. Only difference here is that I'm running on Network Solutions (client's hosting), which I've never used before. I just don't understand why it would fail at that point. When I test for file permissions, it's green. When I test for db connectivity and access, it's green. Thoughts anyone?

Thanks.

Tom

Any ideas on this please from anyone? I would appreciate thoughts. I've done it twice more. My thought was that the default db size was too small and it was blowing the db size upon install (although I'd think 40MB would be plenty). I blew it all away, did the same thing all over again with a 100MB database, and same result.  It all works just fine up to the point that I put the Admin password in. Then blows chunks.

Thanks!

Tom

Tom,

make sure, not to have special characters in your settings. Besides you need to configure your database to use a case-insensitive collation.
