 Hi folks,

I am trying to do install DNN on my rented host for more than a month. I am a seasoned ASP.NET developer and could get my first installation to "work" by debugging Install wizard and changing the steps manually.

But things do not seem right. Every other action causes errors as if there were missing settings, etc. I could add one or two pages to my dnn app via the nice editors, but lots of things are just not happening as expected.

So I decided to start over and the same thing is happening: during step 3, I get an error on the first line of the "status" textarea and then it seems to enter an endless loop displaying "undefined...Success".

If I use Google Chrome, the page will eventually "hang". If I refresh, it displays an "upgrading to 4.09" and some green Success messages (looks like javascript works fine this time) but then I get redirected to Home, and it displays that message saying "Domain Name "<my domain>" Does Not Exist In The Database"

I tried using IE 6, and step 3 is running for 1h straight right now. Next button never gets enabled.

I have been searching the web for this entire hour and found nothing similar to my problem in DNN forums or other places in the web.

Like the subject says... I am about to give up :(

Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Luciano Bargmann

Ok, I was convicted to fix this tonight, and I went to bed 5am but happy to have accomplished my goal.

THERE IS a bug (I will be filling an item into bug tracker) but to work around it without (heavy) hacks do the following:

  1. Upload a DNN install to your server and unzip the files.
  2. [Optional] Re-create your SQL database (lets have it empty for start)
  3. Create your application in IIS
  4. Browse to your DNN site
  5. The wizard will be displayed, just hit NEXT
  6. Hit NEXT on step 2
  7. Fill in your SQL connection information and test it! Here is the trick! That will update your web.config with the right connection string
  8. Hit NEXT and CANCEL installation
  9. DELETE the database tables created by the wizard - so when you open your site again, the wizard will restart (from step 1, obviously).
  10. On the FIRST WIZARD STEP, SELECT THE 3rd (LAST) OPTION!

Enjoy 10 to 30 minutes of fully automated installation of your DNN website.

Thank you all,

Luciano

Dear Luciano,

I understand everything until step 9. Where and how do I delete my database tables witch are created by the wizard?

Thanx for your reaction.

Kind regards, Eric

I think you're right, I had problems installing and the only way I could get it installed was to choose Auto option

This is a really wierd way to do things.

There is nothing wrong with just proceeding with the wizard after configuing your connection string - ie no need to cancel and then try and restart with Auto.

100's if not 1000's of sites have been set up by just using the Wizard from begininning to end.  If that doesn't eork for you I suspect there are other issues.
