Hello, I am trying to setup Dot Net Nuke 4.9 on a windows 2003 machine and I keep getting this error after install:

Server Error in '/' Application.

The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested URL: /Home/tabid/36/ctl/Login/Default.aspx

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.1433; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.1433

The initial portal page shows up, but any link ends up with this error.  I have followed the documentation and reinstalled multiple times.  Does anyone have an idea on what the problem could be?

Thank you,

Dylan

Dylan,

Here are a few things to try.

  1. Make sure Network Service has read/write permission on the directories that make up your Dotnetnuke site.
  2. Make sure that Default.aspx is setup as a default document in IIS
  3. Make sure the Dotnetnuke site is a Web Application in IIS

I am guessing one of those will fix it.

Hi Stuart,

I have tried the first two options, and I am not totally sure what you mean by the third one.

If you mean install the .net framework 2.0 I have done that, but I am running IIS 6 which I dont believe has the option to "Make sure the Dotnetnuke site is a Web Application in IIS".

I was able to run through the installer and setup a portal so I would assume I have the correct permissions as well as asp.net setup, but all of the links on the inital portal page show that error to me.

Thank you,

Dylan

Just because you can install it doesn't mean that all of the files have the correct permissions.  You might want to tick the "Inherit permissions to Children" box again and make sure that ALL files have the right permissions.

IIS Manager, Website Properties, General Tab, bottom of the dialog, Application section.  Make sure it's set as an application and using an application pool set to the 2.0 framework.
