Hello Fellow DNN users.

I have just installed DNN on my workstation and on my IIS Network Server.  My first problem is setting up DNN Framework on my workstation for testing.  I have IIS running and I am on an XP Pro Workstation.  ISS seems to be working fine and I have made the settings in ISS to run .NET 2.0 and have all the permissions set for full access under ISS.

I am also running VIsual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition and SQL Server 2008 on my workstation and I am the administrator of the workstation.

I followed the Installation of DotNetNuke 4.x installation instructions and used the Starter Kit.  The installation seemed to go fine from Visual Web Developer 2008 Express.  The problem I have run into is connecting the database.  I get a Login failed for user MyUserID.   by default it is set to Use Windows Authentication but I have also tried Use SQL Server Authentication.

I have tried to connect to the database.mdf file from Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and get an error that the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DNN\App_Data\Database.mdf is not a primary database file.

Any help would be apprecated.  I want to get the test environment running before I do the installation on my Windows 2003 Pro Server with ISS.

Michael,

Dnn simply populates an existing database.   In SQL Server 2008 go in and create a new Database.  Give the appropriate permissions to either a SQL User or a Windows account.

Then in the web.config(which starts out as a release.config) that comes with Dotnetnuke point to your database using the appropriate information for connecting to the database.

Then setup IIS so that it can access and read the site.

Access the site via web browser and a wizard should appears and walk you through the setup process which includes database population.
