Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know, I'm very new at this - very new to any type of dev environments in general.
Anyway, I go to hit the localhost and it bonks saying "Server error in 'DNN_490_Test' Application" and "Failed to access IIS metabase".

Here is the Stack Trace
[HostingEnvironmentException: Failed to access IIS metabase.]
   System.Web.Configuration.MetabaseServerConfig.MapPathCaching(String siteID, VirtualPath path) +637
   System.Web.Configuration.MetabaseServerConfig.System.Web.Configuration.IConfigMapPath2.MapPath(String siteID, VirtualPath vpath) +9
   System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironment.MapPathActual(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean permitNull) +174
   System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironment.MapPathInternal(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean permitNull) +51
   System.Web.CachedPathData.GetConfigPathData(String configPath) +341
   System.Web.CachedPathData.GetConfigPathData(String configPath) +234
   System.Web.CachedPathData.GetApplicationPathData() +38
   System.Web.CachedPathData.GetVirtualPathData(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean permitPathsOutsideApp) +8801967
   System.Web.Configuration.RuntimeConfig.GetLKGRuntimeConfig(VirtualPath path) +117

Possible issues?
While I was installing SQL Server 2005 and did not set an Authentication Mode and password - totally missed it.
Tried to un/reinstall and the wizard never asked for an Authentication Mode at all.
Pressing on, I get to the part where we add the DOTNET user and give permissions.
DOTNET user was not in the "Find Now" results.

Any hints or solutions will be greatly appreciated!

"Failed to Access the IIS Metabase" is outside the realm of DNN.   I think you need to concentrate on getting rid of that error since it is the first bug in your process.  Try this to start out with...  http://mymcp.blogspot.com/2008/02/failed-to-access-iis-metabase.html

SHAZAAM!

Stuart, you really live up to your name.  Of course, I got a "DNN Configuration Error" to deal with now.  But, that's what makes the whole experience worth it - I'm told.

Thanks again,

-KC-

Ken,

I usually only solve solutions to people with the last name of Hilbert, but I guess I got lucky on this one.  :)

Let's get some details about your configuration error so you can start enjoying Dotnetnuke.  The first installation is always the hardest and then it gets easy.

I do need to tell you that I haven't ever used the start kit I just use the install file and set everything up manually (I have been around to long to rely on wizards and what not), however, I am sure the errors match up nicely.
