Hi,

I am creating a clone of a production site for testing but having a problem getting it running.

The new site will be running on a subdomain of the production site.

I have copied all the files under the www directory to the new subdomain directory.

I have backed up the first db and recreated it in a new db.

In the new db, I deleted the old portal alias and put in the new portal alias with out the http://

In the web.config I inserted the new db connection string.

When I access the page I get the page

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

I have changed the web.config to customErrors mode="Off", but still get the same message on screen. Any ideas what is going wrong? Many thanks,

Problem fixed, Yippee

The hosting provider sent me the following message,

DONTNET is weird some times, if you don't get it right first hit it caches the problem and even when you make a change you still see the original error, which is very frustrating.

I recycled your app pool and deleted the temp files and restarted the site, its running now.

How about adding default.aspx to virtual directory document? or enable guest account?
