I have something similar but not exact that I am running into today.

Installation stopped because the directory for template installation did not exist.  Please run Visual Studio on this computer to create the template directories.

vs 2005.  I installed the source seperately and have everything running, but I need to install the modules so I can develop (or look into developing a new module).

Any help is appreciated.

I have found the solution to my problem which may also help you.  Even though my post about my problem hasn't been approved yet.  I am going to respond to myself.

After installing Visual Studio 2005, the My Documents folder was redirected to a file share. Replacing 'C:\Documents and Settings\' with '\\Server\Share\' in the Options>Projects and Solutions page fixed the problem and allowed the templates to be installed.

So I updated templates and two other things, and now everything is cool.  HTH

In VS 2005, go to Tools -> Option -> Projects and Solutions -> General. Change projects templates location to directory of IIS (default is C:\Inetpub\wwwroot). I installed Starter Kit, good luck!
