I have a DNN site that was working on my 2k server. I migrated it to a more powerful 2k3 server and after much mis-understanding on the 2 platforms and reading and re-reading and browsing the forums and internet I have finally got it working, on the server only.

I cannot browse to the website from any other computer but the server (ip to name resolved in hosts).  I have done this as well after trying to get to it from the internet.  When I type the address in to my browser, I end up at live search (or some other search engine telling me the site doesn't exist).  I have verified the DNS settings as well as run a whois and that resolves fine.  I can ping by name and get the correct resolution response.

What I can't do is this, browse to it locally within the network (ip to name resolved in hosts) from either an XP box of a Vista Ultimate x64 box.  I cannot browse to it from the internet.

I have granted permissions to the Network Service (full control on the root of the website folder as well as the /framework/2.0xx folder).  The site is setup correctly in IIS (as far as I can tel) and I have created the virtual directory (as indicated for 2k3 in the installation guide).

Any suggestions?

Andrew,

make sure, the new site address is added as portal alias:

  • login as superuser ("host")
  • go to site settings in admin menu
  • scroll down to the end of the page
  • add new alias.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold
