Greetings. Rather than perform an update of my site from 4 to 5 (in development) I removed all the files and installed version 5 afresh, then put back the connection strings in web.config to point to my database, and restored the skin. All seemed well (other than some formatting changes in the menus and a couple of graphics not showing) except that I can no longer log in as host or admin! I have been locked out off the site. I experienced this before on one occasion when I set up the site at another URL (without upgrading, just literally copying the site and db).

Trying to retrieve the paswords will not work either. I get the message "There was an error retrieving your password. No password was sent."

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Michel,

this is not a supported way to perform an upgrade. There are files which needs to be kept, especially web.config, which holds encryption keys for passwords. Restore previous files and database and follow the upgrade guidelines. Please note, that there are known upgrade issues, I suggest to wait for 5.0.1 with your upgrade.
