We are trying to launch a new site that has been running on our development server for several months.  We have moved it to the production server which is running probably 20 other DNN sites and are getting this error message:

Could Not Load Skin: /Portals/_default/Skins/SSI-Skin/SSI-Home.ascx Error: The element 'codeSubDirectories' cannot be defined below the application level. (W:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ssi-ala.com\web.config line 111)

Looking for some help.  Thanks in advance.

Is W:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ssi-ala.com\ defined as the root for the website in IIS?  It looks like there's some sort of mismatch between your file system and IIS, so that it doesn't think it should process that web.config as belonging to a standalone application.

Hope that helps,

Solved my own problem.  On the development server we were using a virtual directory.  In the declarations section of the skin I had the following three lines:

<%@ Control language="vb" CodeBehind="VIRTUALDIRECTORYNAME/admin/Skins/skin.vb" AutoEventWireup="false" Explicit="True" Inherits="DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin" %>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" TagName="MENU" Src="VIRTUALDIRECTORYNAME/Admin/Skins/SolPartMenu.ascx" %>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" TagName="LOGIN" Src="VIRTUALDIRECTORYNAME/Admin/Skins/Login.ascx" %>

Replaced the VIRTUALDIRECTORYNAME with a ~ and everything works fine now.

<%@ Control language="vb" CodeBehind="~/admin/Skins/skin.vb" AutoEventWireup="false" Explicit="True" Inherits="DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin" %>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" TagName="MENU" Src="~/Admin/Skins/SolPartMenu.ascx" %>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" TagName="LOGIN" Src="~/Admin/Skins/Login.ascx" %>
